                                                Shingle Style Victorian

Victorian Charm

The photo, above, shows the existing Victorian.  It originally was constructed on wooden piles.  Over the years, it was propped up and re-supported where it began to sag with logs, concrete blocks, rocks and anything else that was available at the time.

The house was lifted and supported while a new foundation was poured below it.  After the new foundation had sufficient time to cure, the house was set-back down on it.

Renovation Sketch

The existing house is loaded with character; Fancy half-round shingles, eye brow window, cone roof, gable roof, jerk-in-head roof, balconies, wrap-around-porch and over 25 20/2 true divide light double hung windows.

All renovation work is being done in the language of the existing house.  The existing wrap-around porch may be extended to create a new mud-room entry.  A new angled shed dormer will be added to the attic level to capture more of the ocean view from the attic studio.  A new shed roof rain hood may protect and pronounce the entry door as the house is approached.

Concept Sketch

A matching Boat House

The sketch to the left shows the conceptual design for a matching boat house.  The design pulls many of the classic Victorian detail from the main house.  The over sized rake boards with end scroll cuts are supported with a fan bracket at the plate line.

The door is a custom 14 foot x 14 foot with transom lights built in at the top.  Above the door is a boxed-out oversized awning window with the half-round fancy cut shingles and custom brackets above.  The over-sized proportions of the windows help to visually decrease the over-all massing of the structure.
